On which surfaces are CERALINE Wax Crayons used?
CERALINE Wax Crayons are only used for already baked clay. The surface should not be too smooth for both earthenware and porcelain, as the wax will then not adhere. This also applies to ordinary wax crayons on paper. Smooth clay can first be roughened with sandpaper.
Heating under reducing atmosphere.
All colours and oxides can be fired under both oxidising and reducing atmospheres. In particular, iron and copper oxide are especially suitable for reducing firing and give surprising results.
Colouring with CERALINE wax crayons?
CERALINE Wax Crayons are not suitable for colouring surfaces. CERALINE is not a wax crayon glaze, but a pigment drawing marker (pigment liner). It is still possible to shade with CERALINE as long as there is space between the shading for the glaze to adhere. If the subsequently applied glaze forms thick drops on the CERALINE lines, it is best to spread them with a soft brush.
Working temperature
CERALINE Wax Crayons must be stored and processed below 30 ° C. However, it is possible to draw on baked clay that is slightly heated with a hair dryer, for example. This way you get a fuller line and can create several effects.
SK 02a or SK 7
SK 02a is used for earthenware at a temperature of 1050 ° C to 1150 ° C and SK 7 for stoneware at a temperature of 1150 ° C to 1300 ° C.
CERALINE Wax Crayons for low temperatures can also be used at high temperatures. The lines then fan out slightly in the adjacent glaze. However, CERALINE High Temperature Wax Crayons cannot be used for baking at low temperatures. The pigments do not adhere sufficiently.
Glaze over CERALINE lines
CERALINE lines cannot be covered with a glaze. During glazing and firing, they form a dam between the glazed surfaces. The result is a matt line between the glazed surfaces, reminiscent of the old Cuerda Seca technique.
CERALINE drawing without glaze
You can make a drawing with CERALINE and bake without glaze. To get a good adhesion of the CERALINE lines, you have to heat slightly higher and longer than the indicated temperature.
CERALINE drawing with glaze
You can create a decorative drawing with CERALINE lines. When filling the surfaces with underglaze, always apply a transparent glaze to the entire object. This helps to fix the CERALINE line optimally. You can also apply an opaque glaze over the CERALINE lines with a brush. The CERALINE lines are not smeared and the glaze does not cover the lines during firing. The colours of the CERALINE linesremain unchanged.
CERALINE and work with Sinter Engobe
If you are working with dark firing clay or a smooth biscuit, it is advisable to spray the object with a sinter engobe first. The CERALINE colours remain lighter.
