Bilinga is a type of wood with an almost golden colour. It is supplied by trees in tropical West Africa of the genus Nauclea from the star leaf family (Rubiaceae). In Belgium it is also traded under the name Opepe.
The wood is grained. It is prone to hairline cracks.
It is sometimes still used for heavy constructions in mills and for constructions that have to withstand wind and weather, such as lock gates and poles that can hit ships (dolphins, brake work, etc.). It is also used in lighter constructions such as pergolas and indoors. It is also suitable for parquet flooring.
