Very soft from Limburg. Colour warm beige. Not polishable. Hardness 1 on the Mohs scale, BICK processing group 1. Dry density approx. 1500 kg per M3 A piece 10x10x10cm weighs approx. 1.5 kg. Maximum dimensions 50x50x100cm.
Limburg Marl is the name for chalk cliffs in Limburg. Confusingly, it is not usually marl in the geological sense. Limburg marl was mainly deposited in the Cretaceous period and is found underground in almost all of the Netherlands and large parts of Flanders.
Despite the fact that it is very soft rock, it is quite weather resistant, provided that the moisture balance is well regulated. wet marl can freeze to pieces. Marl consists of 98% carbonated lime and 2% other constituents.
