Potassium permanganate is an inorganic compound of potassium and manganese with the chemical formula KMnO₄. The substance occurs as dark purple crystals that are easily soluble in water and produce an intense purple solution.
Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidant and therefore harmful to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. The substance is also mildly corrosive to the eyes and skin, especially with more intense and prolonged exposure. Contact with the eyes may cause blindness and contact with the skin may cause redness, itching and allergic reactions.
